Hello all,
Well I figured I would get this one started. I have been reading a book that Brian Krabach recommended called "Pagan Christianity" by Frank Viola and George Barna. I am loving it. Its premise is that the things we do in "church" are not rooted in scriptural practices but rather in pagan rituals and culture. Frank and George present a good case and I would love to hear if others are reading this book and what their thoughts are. Maybe even just go at this chapter by chapter. Who knows. So Frank and George point in the begining to the way the building is setup. How in most churches the pews are facing to the front. The pastor is on the stage. The worship team is on the stage. The people are passive as a result of this setup. This of course has led to Sunday morning being quite a passive place to sit down shut up and do things the way the pastor and the worship leaders deem as worthy. Oddly much of how we have arranged things is because of the way Roman officials came in. I know this is a poor summary but I wanted to put something up on the forum and others can add to this and begin to dialog about it. So that being said, what do people think about the way a typical church building is setup? What would be a more beneficial setup?
Yeah I agree. I am interested in dialog not in arguing. That is just stupid and gets no one anywhere. I am sure it will be interesting.
I liked the reminder that God and Christ are not limited to "God's house" but dwell in us. We don't need to go to church to "be in God's presence" because he's always with us.
There were several other good points made in the book, but I figured I'd throw this one out first because it always comes to mind when I think of "Pagan Christianity."
